Clearing a Clogged Nozzle

On rare occasion it is possible to clog the nozzle with compacted abrasive. Fortunately it is a quick procedure to clear the nozzle.

Tools Needed:

• none

• Optional: Adjustable Pliers
  

Procedure

1.    Loosen the knurled nut securing the nozzle and retainer.  Then remove the nozzle.

• If it proves to be difficult, use pliers to squeeze the plastic collar and pull put the nozzle tip.

2.     Reinstall the nozzle backwards - that is the tapered exit of the nozzle should be inserted into the Cut Head.

3. Secure the inverted nozzle tip by tightening the guard back onto the assembly. Keep the inverted tip pressed up into the assembly while you tighten the knurled nut.

4.  Run Setup & Maintenance > Maintenance > Nozzle Purge.  As long as you see water coming out of the bottom/back of the nozzle you will know it is clear.

Reinstalling the Nozzle Tip

Be careful when re-installing the nozzle tip. If not seated correctly, you will find odd performance issues that are difficult to troubleshoot.

5.    Start by pushing the nozzle tip up into the assembly until it stops. Make sure the tip does not slide downwards. Keep applying this upwards pressure on the tip while you push the white triangle up.

6. Keep applying that upwards pressure on the nozzle tip as you tighten the guard back onto the assembly. Once the guard is tight, you can release the nozzle tip. Please make sure the nozzle tip does not stick out below the guard.

Next Time

• Make sure to set the nozzle height for every cut and be sure your cut bed is level.  

• These are the most likely root causes of the clog

• Make sure that the nozzle is fully seated in the cut head, as this can yield strange problems that are hard to diagnose.
